Exploring Society: India and Beyond is the new NCF-SE Class 8 social science textbook from NCERT (July 2025, NEP 2020 series). It replaces the old three-book split (Our Pasts III, Resources and Development, Social and Political Life) with one integrated book in two parts — history, geography, civics and economics woven together under themes instead of separate subjects. Part I covers resources, India's political past, democracy and economic life; Part II continues with world geography, the freedom struggle, architecture, judiciary, citizenship, population and urban India.
The book works through maps, illustrations, activities, reflective questions and small research tasks — children trace the rise of the Marathas, the colonial era, India's long road to independence, the working of Parliament and the judiciary, and the dynamics of a growing, urbanising population. Assessment can come from text, side boxes, images and maps, so reading carefully matters more than memorising dates.
