Themes in Indian History Part I is the first of three NCERT volumes for Class 12 history (rationalized, 2026-27), covering ancient India in 4 themes: the Harappan civilisation, early states and economies, kinship-caste-class, and thinkers-beliefs-buildings. Each theme is built around sources — archaeological finds, inscriptions, texts — and teaches students to read evidence like historians.
History answers are source-based: quoting the evidence (a seal, an inscription, a traveller's account) is what separates an average answer from a topper's. Part I's 4 themes carry 25 of the 80 theory marks.
