Is kitab ke baare mein
Vistas is the Class 12 English supplementary reader — the second prescribed book for English Core alongside Flamingo. Where Flamingo gives short prose and poems, Vistas gives longer, deeper prose: science-fiction tinged stories, travel writing, a war story, a play, and a two-part memoir of childhood.
The rationalized edition trims the book to 6 chapters: Jack Finney's The Third Level, Kalki's The Tiger King, Tishani Doshi's Journey to the End of the Earth, Pearl S. Buck's The Enemy, Susan Hill's play On the Face of It, and Memories of Childhood — with Zitkala-Sa's The Cutting of My Long Hair and Bama's We Too are Human Beings. Board questions from Vistas are long-answer, theme-and-character based, so reading the full text matters more than summaries here.
Poori chapter list (NCERT official)
1. The Third Level
Jack Finney — a psychiatrist's patient finds a third level at Grand Central Station, and an escape from modern insecurity
2. The Tiger King
Kalki — a satire on a princely state's eccentric king and his obsessive tiger hunt
3. Journey to the End of the Earth
Tishani Doshi — a voyage to Antarctica and what the planet's coldest place teaches about climate
4. The Enemy
Pearl S. Buck — a Japanese surgeon shelters an American prisoner of war; duty to country versus duty to humanity
5. On the Face of It
Susan Hill — a play: a burnt-faced boy and a lonely old man discover they see the world the same way
6. Memories of Childhood
Zitkala-Sa and Bama — two memoirs of humiliation and resistance: a Native American girl's haircut, a Dalit boy's awakening
Ustad ka mashwara
Vistas ke chapters lambe hain — bachche summary ratne lagte hain, rok dein. 'The Enemy' aur 'On the Face of It' se character-sketch wale lambe sawal aate hain; class mein ek-ek character ka sketch board par banwayein. 'Memories of Childhood' ke dono hisson ka compare-contrast karwayein, yehi board ka favourite angle hai.
