Is kitab ke baare mein

This is the English-medium Class 8 Home Economics textbook (2011 syllabus, 5th edition) — a thoroughly practical book built around three sections. “Cooking of Food” teaches eight complete recipes — Korma, Pulao, Shami-Kabab, Halwa Sooji, Fruit Jam, Vegetables Pickle, Dried bitter-gourds and Turnips, and Mango Chutney — each with its nutritive value and exact ingredient quantities. “Principles of Health and Hygiene and Stitching of Garments” moves from health and hygiene to real needlework: darning, buttonholes and buttons, gathers, pleats and the flat fell seam, taking body measurements, and the full drafting, cutting and stitching of both the kurta and the shalwar. “Living in the Family” covers removing spots and stains from fabrics, washing clothes, cleanliness of the kitchen, budgeting, and making paper flowers.

What sets this book apart is that it is examined practically: the stitching chapters close with EVALUATION tables awarding standard marks for each step — 20 marks for making pleats, 25 for the flat fell seam — so students are marked on what their hands can do, not just what they memorized. The cooking chapters likewise test the nutritive value of each dish, and the home-management chapters test real-life skills like stain removal and family budgeting. A student who cooks one recipe at home and stitches one seam in class will find this paper easy; one who only reads the book will not.

Ustad ka mashwara

Is kitab ko parh kar nahi, kar ke parhain. Har cooking chapter ke baad bachi ghar mein wohi recipe banaye — Korma ya Shami-Kabab — aur tasveer laye; nutritive value aik number ka sawal hai, isay ratta nahi, samajh kar yaad karwain. Stitching walay chapters (Darning, Pleats, Kurta, Shalwar) mein needle aur kapra haath mein dein — kitab mein diye gaye EVALUATION tables hi aap ka marking scheme hain, unhi standard marks par practical check karein. Budgeting aur stain-removal jaise chapters discussion se zyada class activity se yaad hotay hain.

Aksar pooche gaye sawalat

Which chapters carry the most marks in the exam?

The stitching section — especially Taking Body Measurements, Kurta and Shalwar (drafting, cutting and stitching) — because it is tested as practical with standard-marks evaluation tables (20 marks for pleats, 25 for the flat fell seam). In the cooking section, the “nutritive value” of each dish (Korma, Pulao, Halwa Sooji and the rest) is the favourite one-mark and short-question area.

Is this book theory or practical?

Mostly practical. Every cooking chapter gives a full recipe with exact quantities, every stitching chapter gives step-by-step methods ending in an evaluation table, and chapters like Removing Spots and stains from the fabrics and Paper flowers are pure hands-on work. Reading alone is not enough — students must actually do the work.

How is the English-medium book different from the Urdu-medium one?

They belong to different syllabus generations. This English-medium book is the older 2011 edition, organized around cooking, stitching and home management with heavy practical work. The Urdu-medium book is the newer Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board edition with eleven chapters — including Food and Nutrition, Self Concept and Work Simplification — and starts every chapter with Students' Learning Outcomes.

How should students prepare the recipes for exams?

Make a two-column table for each of the eight dishes — dish name on one side, its nutritive value plus two or three key ingredients with quantities on the other. Examiners ask “nutritive value of pulao” or “ingredients of shami-kabab” type questions, and the table answers them at a glance.
