This is the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board's English book for Class 8, written for the Single National Curriculum 2022. Instead of isolated lessons, it is built around twelve themes — Ethics and Values in 'Tolerance of the Rasoolullah', Peaceful Co-existence in 'A Great Virtue', Role Models in 'Hazrat Umar', Sports and Sportsmanship, Environmental Education in 'The Earth Speaks' and 'Trees Plantation', Adventure in 'Mountaineering', and Patriotism in 'Give to Your Country'. Two poems are woven in: 'The Twins' and 'Give to Your Country'. Every unit carries its own learning outcomes and a 'Talk Time' warm-up, then teaches oral communication, reading, vocabulary and grammar, and writing as one connected package.
The grammar syllabus is a carefully ordered spiral: it starts with dictionary use, multi-syllable words, prefixes and suffixes, the thesaurus and silent letters, then walks students through every tense in sequence — simple present and continuous, simple past and continuous, present perfect and continuous, past perfect and continuous, simple future and continuous — before spending five full units on direct and indirect speech, tense by tense. The writing journey runs in parallel: paragraph and narrative writing first, then character sketches, story writing, paraphrasing and summaries, essays, newspaper reports, dialogues, recipes, letters, magazine articles, diary pages and emails. Three review sections (Review-01, Review-02, Review-03) consolidate each block of four units.

Grammar ka wazan sab se zyada tenses aur direct/indirect speech par hai — yeh paanch units (Units 8 se 12) mein tense-by-tense phaila hua hai, is liye inhein ek saath revise karna behtar hai. Writing section mein essay, story aur letter/email (Units 10 aur 12) har saal aate hain. Comprehension ke liye Units 1, 5 aur 10 ke reading texts sab se mazboot tayyari dete hain.
Poems kon si units mein hain aur unki tayyari kaise karein?
Do poems hain: Unit 3 mein 'The Twins' (Personality Development theme) aur Unit 11 mein 'Give to Your Country' (Patriotism theme). Dono ki tayyari mein paraphrasing aur summary skills (Unit 3) kaam aati hain — poem ko apne alfaaz mein samjhana seekhein, sirf ratna nahi. Figures of speech (Units 3 aur 7) poems ke sawalon mein seedha pooche jaate hain.
SNC 2022 wali edition mein pehle wali English 8 se kya farq hai?
Sab se bara farq yeh hai ke kitab ab themes par built hai — har unit ka naam uske theme se aata hai aur text usi theme ke gird ghoomta hai. Har unit ke shuru mein learning outcomes, Talk Time activities aur teaching points diye gaye hain. Grammar bhi ab scatter nahi, balkeh tarteeb se hai: dictionary skills se shuru ho kar tenses, phir direct/indirect speech tak ek clear progression hai, aur har chaar units ke baad review section hai.
