The Neela Qaida is the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board’s classic supplementary Urdu reader for Pre-I — the book generations of children learned their first letters from. Each page introduces two or three letters with big tracing lines and picture words every child knows: alif se anda, bay se billi, pay se pyala, jeem se jahaz, daal se darakht.
After the alphabet it teaches reading the qaida way: two-letter words, then the three aaraab — zabar, zer, pesh — then the harder combinations: do-chashmi hay wale murakkabat (bh, ph, th, jh, chh, dh, rh, kh, gh), noon ghunna, tashdeed and waw-e-madda. As a bonus, the last pages add the English alphabet Aa–Zz with tracing practice and counting one to ten in English and Urdu.

What is the difference between the Neela Qaida and the Urdu Primer?
The Urdu Primer is the main Pre-I Urdu textbook with duas, manners, stories and grammar. The Neela Qaida is the optional supplementary reader focused purely on reading practice — letters, word-building, aaraab and compound letters.
Does the qaida teach aaraab (zabar, zer, pesh)?
Yes. Page 24 introduces all three aaraab together (zabar, zer, pesh), followed by dedicated practice: pesh with dua/hauz/juice words and zer with bail/gaaye words, plus tashdeed and noon ghunna later.
Does the book include English letters too?
Yes — the final pages teach the English alphabet Aa to Zz with picture words (apple, ball, cat, dog...) and tracing lines, plus counting one to ten in English and Urdu.
