3 Times Table Worksheet — Free Printable Target Circles (with Answer Key)
Free printable 3 times table worksheet: 54 mixed-order target circle questions, help that fades row by row, a no-help Star Challenge, the hardest 3-table facts, and the memory trick that makes the rhythm table click.

3 Times Table Worksheet
The 3 times table is the first table that cannot be solved by simple doubling, so it is the first real test of memory. It is also the table where rhythm saves the day: 3, 6, 9, 12 has a beat to it, and children who clap or tap the pattern learn it noticeably faster than children who only stare at it.
This free printable worksheet practises the 3 times table the way memory actually works: mixed order, repeated often, with help that fades away. Download it below, or read on for the 3 table’s hardest facts and the trick that unlocks the whole table.
The 3 times table
- 3 × 1 = 3
- 3 × 2 = 6
- 3 × 3 = 9
- 3 × 4 = 12
- 3 × 5 = 15
- 3 × 6 = 18
- 3 × 7 = 21
- 3 × 8 = 24
- 3 × 9 = 27
- 3 × 10 = 30
Two patterns hide inside the 3 table. First, the answers alternate odd, even, odd, even — 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18. Second, and most useful for checking: the digits of every answer add up to 3, 6 or 9. For 3 × 8 = 24, 2 + 4 = 6 — correct. If a child’s answer fails that test, it is wrong, and he can catch the mistake himself.

The hardest facts in the 3 table
Not all facts are equal. In my classroom, these are the 3-table facts children miss most — give them extra attention:
- 3 × 8 = 24 — the most-missed fact in this table; the digit check (2 + 4 = 6) helps
- 3 × 7 = 21 — often confused with 3 × 6 = 18 or 3 × 9 = 27
- 3 × 9 = 27 — teach it as one step before 3 × 10 = 30
Memory trick: Clap it, then check it with digits
Teach the table in rhythm first — clap on every answer: 3 (clap), 6 (clap), 9 (clap)… Then hand over the digit-sum check as a self-marking tool. A child who can verify his own answers practises more honestly, because he no longer has to wait for a teacher to find his mistakes.
About this worksheet
The download is a one-page A4 sheet with 9 target circles and 54 questions. The 3 sits in the centre of each circle; the inner ring holds multipliers 1 to 10 in mixed order; the child writes each answer in the outer ring.
- Row 1 — With a little help: two answers are printed in blue on each circle, so a nervous beginner starts with success.
- Row 2 — Only one help: a single given answer per circle.
- Row 3 — Star Challenge: no help at all — the true test of recall.
Every multiplier appears five or six times across the sheet, so even the hardest facts above get repeated practice. A score strip at the bottom records the score out of 54 and the time taken, with three stars to colour in.

Frequently asked questions
What is the fastest way to learn the 3 times table?
Rhythm and repetition in short bursts: chant the table with a clap for two minutes, then immediately test with mixed-order questions — like the circles on this worksheet — so the knowledge works without the song.
How can a child check a 3-table answer himself?
Add the digits of the answer. Multiples of 3 always give digit sums of 3, 6 or 9 (for example 27 → 2 + 7 = 9). It is not a full proof, but it catches most slips.
Which 3-table facts do children get wrong most?
3 × 8 = 24 and 3 × 7 = 21. They sit in the middle of the table where the chanting is weakest, which is exactly why mixed-order practice matters.
Is this 3 times table worksheet free for classroom use?
Yes — it is free for classroom and home use. Please keep the credit line at the bottom of the sheet so other teachers can find the source.
