First Flight is NCERT's main Class 10 English textbook — a literature reader of 9 prose chapters, each carrying its poem inside the same chapter. The journey runs from G.L. Fuentes' 'A Letter to God' and Mandela's 'Long Walk to Freedom' through Anne Frank's diary, the hills of Coorg, Mijbil the otter and a bus ride with Valli, ending with Chekhov's one-act play 'The Proposal'. This is the 2022-rationalized edition that remains current for 2026-27 (Class 10's new NCF-SE books arrive only in 2027-28).
The 10 poems — Frost, Yeats, Ogden Nash, Robin Klein and others — are printed right after their prose chapters, so every unit reads as one experience. Chapters removed in the 2022 rationalization ('The Hundred Dresses', 'The Hack Driver', 'Animals') are not part of this edition.
