Remove a watermark from text & documents — without erasing the writing

Most removers make you paint over the mark — and take the letters underneath with it. This one finds the watermark by colour: the pale stamp, logo, or diagonal text is rebuilt from the surrounding paper, while your dark text is never touched. It also handles logos and stamps on photos. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Quick answer: open your scan or photo, stay in Text / Document mode, paint a rough region around the watermark, and tune the lightness slider until only the watermark turns red. Press Remove — the red pixels are rebuilt, the writing stays.

Watermark Remover

Built for watermarks on text & documents · JPG, PNG, WebP · 100% in your browser

Private by design: your image is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded to a server.

How it works

Only the watermark pixels are rebuilt

The brush never decides what disappears in Document mode — colour does. That single difference is why the text survives: letters are dark, watermarks are pale, and the tool only rebuilds the pale ones.

1. Add your image

Open a JPG, PNG, or WebP. It stays on your device — nothing is uploaded.

2. Mark the watermark

Paint a rough region and tune the sliders until only the watermark is red — or paint the mark directly in Photo mode.

3. Remove it

Marked pixels are rebuilt from the surrounding paper or picture. Dark text is never in the mask.

4. Compare & download

Check with the before/after slider, download PNG or JPG, or run a second pass on leftovers.

Two modes

Pick the mode that matches your mark

Text / Document mode (default)

For scanned pages, forms, certificates, and screenshots where a stamp, logo, or diagonal watermark overlaps the writing. You paint only a rough region; the mask is then built by colour inside it. Light grey and pale pixels are treated as watermark, dark pixels as writing — so even where the watermark crosses a letter, the letter itself is kept and only the pale ink over it is removed.

  • Lightness and colour-strength sliders with a live red preview
  • Eyedropper for blue and red official or school stamps
  • Works on the whole image if you paint no region

Photo mode

For photos and plain backgrounds, where there is no text to protect. Paint exactly over the corner logo, date stamp, signature, or unwanted object, and only those pixels are rebuilt, blended from the picture around them. A smaller brush gives you precise control near edges you want to keep.

  • Brush with adjustable size, erase, undo, and clear
  • Touch-friendly — works with a finger on your phone
  • Rebuild uses the real surrounding texture, not a flat blur
Best results

What it works best on

  • Light grey diagonal text watermarks across scanned or typed pages
  • Round school, office, and official stamps over printed text (use the eyedropper)
  • Camera date stamps and small corner logos on photos
  • Signatures and marks on white or flat-coloured backgrounds
  • Text overlays on plain areas of screenshots and slides
Honest limits

What it cannot promise

  1. 1. Hidden writing cannot be recovered. A dark, opaque watermark that fully covers letters destroys the strokes beneath it. The area is filled from nearby paper — presentable, but the hidden text is gone.
  2. 2. Busy detail fills approximately. A large mark over a face, handwriting, or a complex pattern is reconstructed from its surroundings, so expect a soft, approximate patch rather than the original detail.
  3. 3. Very faint writing needs care. Pencil or faded print can be almost as light as a watermark. Lower the lightness slider and keep the painted region tight so faint letters stay unmarked.
Tips

For the cleanest result

Trust the red preview

Red is exactly what will be removed. If red touches a letter, lower the lightness slider; if part of the watermark stays unmarked, raise it. Two seconds of tuning beats a second removal pass.

Sample coloured stamps

Blue and red stamps are too colourful for the lightness rule. Sample the stamp's colour with the eyedropper, then adjust tolerance until the stamp is fully red and the text is not.

Paint a little beyond the edges

Watermark edges are faint, so stopping exactly on the visible outline leaves a ghost. Cover slightly more in Photo mode, and in Document mode keep the region snug around the mark.

Please use it responsibly: remove watermarks only from images you own or have the right to edit — your own scans, documents, and photos. A watermark usually marks someone's work; taking it off to pass that work off as your own is not okay. Need the opposite instead? You can add a watermark to a PDF with our PDF tool.

Common questions

Watermark remover FAQ

How do I remove a watermark that sits on top of text?

Use Text / Document mode. Paint a rough region around the watermarked area — you do not need to trace the mark. Then watch the red preview: raise or lower the Watermark lightness slider until the watermark is covered in red but the letters are not, and press Remove watermark. Only the red pixels are rebuilt, so the dark writing underneath stays in place.

Will the writing under the watermark stay readable?

Yes, that is exactly what Document mode is built for. It marks pixels by colour, not by your brush strokes: light, weakly coloured pixels count as watermark, dark text pixels are never marked. Where a watermark stroke crossed a letter, the tiny gaps are filled from the surrounding paper, which on the flat background of a document reads cleanly.

How does the tool tell the watermark apart from the text?

Watermarks on documents are almost always light grey, pale, or semi-transparent, while printed and typed text is dark. Document mode uses that difference — brightness plus colour strength — with two sliders you can tune while watching a live red preview of exactly which pixels will be removed.

Can it remove a blue or red stamp from a document?

Yes. Coloured stamps are too saturated for the lightness rule, so Document mode has an eyedropper: tap “Sample stamp colour”, tap the stamp on the image, and the tool marks pixels that match that colour. Adjust the colour tolerance until the stamp is red in the preview but the text is not.

Can a dark, solid watermark over text be removed perfectly?

Honestly, no — and no tool can do that. If a dark, opaque mark completely covers part of a letter, the original strokes underneath are gone from the file, so there is nothing to recover. The tool fills the area from the surrounding paper, which looks fine on plain backgrounds but cannot bring back hidden writing. Light and semi-transparent watermarks are the ones that remove cleanly.

Is my document or photo uploaded to a server?

No. The removal runs entirely in your browser using the OpenCV engine, which is downloaded once (about 8 MB) when you first use the tool. Your image itself never leaves your device, so private documents and personal photos stay private.

What kinds of watermarks does it work best on?

Light grey diagonal text watermarks across scanned pages, camera date stamps, school and office stamps on white paper, signatures and small logos in corners, and text overlays on plain areas of photos. Large marks over faces or busy, detailed backgrounds are filled approximately rather than perfectly.

Is the watermark remover really free?

Yes — completely free, with no account, no daily limit, and no watermark added to your download. Because everything runs on your own device, there are no per-image costs to pass on.
