The Class 1 English textbook (PCTB, Single National Curriculum 2020) develops reading, writing, listening and speaking through 11 theme-based units and 4 review units. It starts with Time to Recall — the alphabet, letter sounds and pre-writing — then moves through My Family and I, Cobbler, Cobbler (professions), Let's have Fun!, Sharing is Caring, Blessings of Allah, Classroom Manners, Nature is Beautiful, A Greeting Card, The Hare and the Tortoise, and Love Animals.
Each unit works in four strands: reading and critical thinking, language focus (sight words, rhyming words, word meanings), grammar (nouns, pronouns, articles, is/am/are, adjectives), and oral communication plus writing. Writing grows from tracing and copying in Unit 1 to writing naming and action words, numbers in words, a greeting card and even speech bubbles by the end of the year.
